A little about Cumberland...

The quiet, but friendly, town of Cumberland is located in Cumberland County, Maine. Once a part of North Yarmouth, Cumberland was officially incorporated as its own town in 1821. The town received its name from Captain Ephraim Sturdivant, a ship captain and the first treasurer of Cumberland. The town of Cumberland is small, but charming, and is known for its friendly and welcoming community.

Cumberland has a rich history in farming, and though only a small number of working farms still remain in the town, the farming spirit is still very much evident throughout the community. Local farms and orchards offer pick-your-own produce and freshly picked groceries to residents. The town also plays host to the Cumberland Fair, which is one of the state’s largest agricultural fairs and features a wide range of events. This annual farmer’s fair has everything from livestock and agricultural exhibits to fireworks and Rodeo events, and is sure to delight residents of all ages.

Cumberland's Recreational Fields and Facilities

The town is also home to several excellent recreational facilities for residents and their families to enjoy. The local Twin Brook Recreation Facility is a wonderful park that can be enjoyed throughout the year. It covers more than 250 acres with a number of mixed athletic fields, baseball and softball fields, and soccer fields. The recreational fields in the town play host to the local Little League teams and other sporting groups. These games frequently draw out the town’s residents to play or watch in support of their family and friends.  The park also features more than 4 miles of wooded walking trails, many of which are groomed for cross country skiing during the winter.

Cumberland's Local Shops and Businesses

Lending to the small town feel of Cumberland, several family-owned businesses are found within the town. Ice cream shops, pizzerias, and grills offer local food in friendly environments. Two local dentists offer convenient and friendly oral care. The Cumberland Congregational Church at the center of the town provides a sense of community.  A new bank was added to the town in 2010. Cumberland’s close community and small town charm will bring resident’s a sense of nostalgia for simpler times and comfort in knowing they live in such a safe and friendly place.
